An ankle-foot orthosis (also known as simply an “AFO”) is a brace that supports and controls the motion of the foot at the ankle joint, as well as in the joints of the actual foot. The objective of an AFO is to help control instabilities in the lower limbs by helping the wearer maintain a more proper and balanced controlling motion while standing or walking.
